The quintessential Rat Pack flick garnered mixed reviews upon release, but drew audiences thanks to the charismatic appeal of its star-studded cast. Time will tell which category Takers falls into (its cast is fairly evenly divided between the vacantly pretty/actually talented camps), but as with many of its predecessors, it's not exactly Oscar-caliber acting that brings all the girls and boys to the yard. Either way, there's just one rule: The majority of the cast must be comprised of attractive, young-ish men upon whose beautiful faces we can fixate in lieu of an absence of good plot/character development. Sometimes the all-male eye candy is comprised of vacant-eyed pretty boys in superficially serviceable roles other times we get lucky and those pretty boys and men are also talented thespians.

Said movie trend reaches back decades, although one might argue it reached its height in the early-to-mid 1990s. "Tip" Harris, and Michael Ealy (the latter two of whom fight over token female Zoe Saldana), Takers marks the latest entry in the long, fruitful history of All-Male Eye Candy Ensembles. Yes ladies, with an ensemble that includes Hayden Christensen, Paul Walker, Idris Elba, Jonathon Schaech, Jay Hernandez, Matt Dillon, T.I. Obviously, Takers has jumped to the top of my must-watch list, as much for the aforementioned reasons as for its contributions to one of my favorite movie trends of all time. vamping in expensive suits! This could be the best movie of the year!* What's more, we're promised Hayden Christensen unironically wearing a silly hat! Chris Brown doing parkour! Rapper-turned-actor T.I. Why, Takers appears to be a slick affair about a band of good-looking bank robbers who hatch complex plots to steal millions when they're not hot tubbing with models, smoking cigars, stealing each others' girlfriends, and casually walking away from huge explosions! A closer viewing of the trailer, however, promises much more. 12 at 10 p.m.At first glance, John Luessenhop's crime thriller Takers screams "semi-generic urban heist pic," so you're forgiven for not ever having given it a second thought.
